Student Support Services
The Student Support Services is a federally funded program designed to assist eligible college students, who meet income guidelines in completing their course of study. Services include free tutorial assistance; personal, academic, and career counseling; cultural enrichment and transfer assistance to four-year colleges. Special assistance to the disabled student is also provided. The services are free to eligible students.
Funded 100% by U.S. Department of Education funding $524,030.00.

What is Educational Talent Search?
Our Mission Statement
The Educational Talent Search (ETS) outreach staff conducts a variety of grade specific academic advisement workshops including: early awareness educational activities for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders; course selection; college pre-enrollment academic admission requirements for high school level participants; academic advisement workshops for the families of participants; and standardized test administration procedures. In addition, the staff makes referrals to other academic or community based dropout prevention educational programs (i.e. Upward Bound, EOC, SSS, and tutorial services).
The ETS program administers learning assessments to provide information to its participants on how they learn and study, along with information on how they feel about learning and studying. The program’s staff uses this information in conjunction with the participant’s academic transcript and target school counselor to assess the student’s educational need for program services.
The ETS outreach staff conducts career exploration, career counseling, and achievement assessment for all of its target school participants. Staff utilizes the assessments in order to assist students in identifying and evaluating their career interests.
The ETS program provides assistance in preparing for standardized college entrance exams for its high school level participants. The ETS program provides target school participants with free standardized test preparation workshops for all of its target schools and provides test information presentation for interested parents.
The ETS outreach staff provides a variety of information on post secondary education and college financial aid assistance. The staff also provides assistance to both target school participants and their parents in completing college admissions and financial aid applications. This assistance is designed to measurably increase the number of ETS participants who apply for college financial aid and successfully enroll in a program of post-secondary education.
The ETS program provides field trips for middle and high school participants, attending ETS target schools, in order to provide them with exposure to college campuses, cultural sites and for career investigations at local industries and businesses. ETS field trips are designed to motivate participants to stay in school, graduate, and enroll in postsecondary education by showing the benefits of college campus life and increasing their awareness of the potential of higher education in successfully enriching their future lives.
The ETS outreach staff conducts any type of academic, financial, or career counseling for which its participants may express or demonstrate a need in order to increase their chances of staying in school and successfully enrolling in postsecondary education. In addition, the staff will make referrals to other supportive and social services type programs (i.e. community, government, Upward Bound, EOC, SSS, and tutorial services).
About EOC
The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a federally funded TRiO program. TRiO programs were originally established in 1965 to ensure equal educational opportunity for Americans, regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstance. EOC became the fourth TRiO program when it was established in 1972.
EOC provides counseling and information on college admissions to qualified adults in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas. EOC also provides services to improve the financial and economic literacy of its participants. An important objective of the program is to counsel participants on financial aid options, including basic financial planning skills, and to assist with the financial aid application process. EOC’s goal is to increase the number of adults who successfully enroll in college or technical school.

EOC offers a variety of services and resources. From information and study materials to hands on assistance with the FAFSA and group workshops. Our advisors are equipped to help you successfully meet your educational goals.

- Assistance with financial aid applications, including FAFSA
- Financial literacy, student loan counseling & loan default recovery information
- Test preparation, including GED, ACT, Accuplacer, SAT, & CLEP
- Student success tools, such as access to PhotoStudy for math and science assistance, access to Reading Plus for building reading and comprehension skills, and various training modules for Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and more
- Interest assessments, including O*Net Career Interest Inventory & O*Net Career Values Inventory
- Online access to career & major exploration resources such as OKCIS and Virtual Job Shadow
- Access to online Job Readiness and Soft Skill training modules through Applied Educational Systems and resume building tools and guides
About Upward Bound
& Upward Bound Math Science
Upward Bound provides services to selected high school students who are potential first-generation college students and who meet specific family income guidelines. Concentrated academic services are provided on Poteau campus for six weeks each summer with periodic follow-up services provided throughout the academic year. Personal enrichment activities such as cultural events and individual tutorial services are also provided giving students a jump start to get them through high school and into postsecondary school.
Eligible Schools: Bokoshe, Cameron, Heavener, Howe, LeFlore, Panama, Pocola, Poteau, Spiro & Wister.
Upward Bound Math/Science (UBMS) provide services to selected high school students who are potential first-generation college students and who meet specific family income criteria. UBMS works to help the selected high school students recognize and develop their potential to excel in fields related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Concentrated services are provided on the Poteau campus in a six week summer program and are followed by a an academic year program. The goal of the program is to help students graduate high school, enroll in postsecondary school and complete an education with a degree in math, science or information technology.
Eligible Schools: Heavener, Panama, Pocola, Poteau, Red Oak, Spiro & Wister.
The Upward Bound and UB Math/Science Programs at Carl Albert State College are funded 100% by grants from the US Department of Education in the amounts of $545,967 (Upward Bound South) and $382,372 (UB Math Science) per year. Number of participants served per year of funding: 110 (Upward Bound South); 77 (UB Math Science).
