CARL ALBERT STATE COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT NJCAA NATIONALS IN RICHMOND, VIRGINIA

On November 9th, Carl Albert State College (CASC) showcased its cross country talent on the national stage as the men’s and women’s Viking cross country teams competed in the NJCAA National XC Meet in Richmond, Virginia. Among 41 participating colleges, the Viking athletes delivered outstanding performances, bringing recognition and pride to the college.

In the women’s division, the Viking team earned an impressive 17th place overall. Leading the team was Lindsey Wortham, whose performance placed her in the top 15% of runners and earned her an All-American title from the NJCAA Cross Country Coaches Association—a prestigious honor recognizing her dedication and skill.

The men’s team saw strong individual efforts from all four Viking runners, with standout Steven Cruz setting a new Carl Albert record in the 8K, finishing with a time of 27:34.

The trip was also rich in team bonding and memorable experiences beyond the competition. The Vikings explored the scenic Appalachian Trail and enjoyed staying in the heart of Richmond’s vibrant downtown. Competing among the nation’s best collegiate runners, Carl Albert student-athletes returned with fresh perspectives, meaningful experiences, and greater motivation for the upcoming season. Five of the six women and three of the four men plan to return next season, fueling hopes for even more success in the future.
