CARL ALBERT STATE COLLEGE FACULTY PRESENT INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL SOLUTION AT OACC CONFERENCE

Poteau, OK– Carl Albert State College (CASC) is proud to announce that four of its esteemed faculty members—Terri Carroll, Susan Hill, Samantha Piper, and Sarah Brown—presented at the recent Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges (OACC) Conference, showcasing their groundbreaking project, VIKEquip: Empowering Underprepared Students.

In response to the Oklahoma State Regents’ new policy redefining remedial education for students with academic deficiencies in English and reading, the CASC English faculty embarked on an innovative approach to supplement student instruction. After several collaborative brainstorming sessions, the faculty developed VIKEquip, a dynamic interdisciplinary platform that equips students with vital academic skills.

VIKEquip offers brief instructional videos paired with quizzes to help students enhance their understanding of grammar and reading. Originally designed for English and reading support, the project is already expanding to include instructional resources for math students, providing faculty across multiple disciplines with a robust tool for promoting academic success.

“VIKEquip aligns directly with our mission to provide affordable, accessible, and exceptional education,” said Terri Carroll. “It’s more than just a learning tool—it’s a resource that empowers students to achieve their full potential.”

In collaboration with digital media students, the CASC English faculty created an easy-to-integrate platform available at no additional cost to students. The VIKEquip project is a testament to CASC’s dedication to fostering student success through innovative and inclusive educational solutions.

At the OACC Conference, the CASC faculty shared how VIKEquip was conceptualized, developed, and produced. Their presentation included a live demonstration of the platform, highlighting its potential to enhance student learning and academic achievement.
