EDUCATIONAL TALENT SEARCH CELEBRATES A SUMMER OF LEADERSHIP, LEARNING, AND ADVENTURE

Poteau, OK- The Educational Talent Search (ETS) students have had an extraordinary summer filled with enriching activities, leadership development, and unique educational experiences. Beginning May 30, 2024, the program embarked on a series of camps and field trips that not only educated but also inspired students in grades 6 through 12.

Leadership Camp at Carl Albert State College (CASC)

From May 30 to June 2, thirty-seven ETS students gathered on the CASC campus for a Leadership Camp led by Paradigm Shift. The camp featured workshops and activities including Empower for Employment, Wellness Inventory, The GRIT Factor, and Collective Brilliance, all aimed at enhancing students’ leadership skills and personal development.

STEM Camp with Woven Learning

On June 3 and 4, twenty-nine students participated in the ETS STEM Camp, which was conducted by Woven Learning. The camp offered hands-on learning in game design fundamentals, AI in game development, and the use of Micro

and Makey Makeys for game interactions. Students explored AI algorithms, created physical game controllers, and delved into the engineering design process by building a marble roller coaster and simple robots. The camp concluded with an introduction to 3D printing technology, enabling students to incorporate 3D printed components into their projects.

Ride the Rails Adventure

On June 13, thirty-one middle school students enjoyed a historic train ride aboard the American Missouri train from Van Buren, Arkansas, to Winslow, Arkansas. The “Ride the Rails” adventure allowed students to learn about the history of the rail line and appreciate the scenic beauty of the region.

Campus Tours and Skydiving Experience

The summer activities culminated with a field trip for high school students, grades 9 through 12, which took place from June 24 to June 25. Thirty-one students toured the University of North Texas in Denton, Oklahoma, and Southeastern State University in Durant, Oklahoma. They visited welcome centers, dorms, classroom buildings, and other campus highlights. As a thrilling conclusion, the students experienced indoor skydiving at iFLY in Frisco, Texas, where they attended a STEM presentation exploring mass, velocity, and related theories.
