About Our Program:

The mission of the Child Development Program is to provide students the knowledge and skills necessary to continue their education at a university in the field of Child Development or Early Childhood. The program accomplishes the mission by preparing students to teach in diverse and inclusive environments, build relationships with children, family and community, and design, implement and evaluate curriculum. In addition, the program equips students with an understanding of health, safety, and nutritional requirements and promotes positive learning outcomes for each child.

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, the student will integrate cultural diversity in an inclusive learning environment.

        A. Apply appropriate cultural community resources

        B. Engage parental participation based upon family demographics.

Upon completion of the program, the student will determine the developmental level of each child.

        A. Apply individual family service plan based on external forces.

        B. Apply the developmental characteristic profile to child’s development.

Upon completion of the program, the student will create an age appropriate curriculum.

        A. Relate theoretical perspectives to child development

        B. Build age appropriate learning content

        C. Organize appropriate physical setting

My Career Paths

Graduates of our program can pursue careers in Early Head Start and Head Start teacher assistant, preschool teacher assistant, parent educator, family support professional, child care facility administrator,
and state agency employee.

Transfer Opportunities

Carl Albert State College has a transfer agreement with Southeastern Oklahoma State University from the AA degree in Child Development to Bachelor of Science in Early Intervention and Childhood Development.
