CASC Students Explore Art, History, and Culture on Educational Field Trip

Members of Carl Albert State College’s OAEA (Future Teachers Club) and History Club enjoyed an enriching educational field trip to Shawnee on Saturday, September 27, where they explored art, history, and cultural heritage.

The day began with a docent-led tour of the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art, with special emphasis on the museum’s renowned Egyptian exhibit. Students learned about the fascinating history of the only two Egyptian mummies in Oklahoma, gaining deeper insight into ancient civilizations and their preservation.

Following the museum tour, the group stopped by the historic Santa Fe Railroad Depot before enjoying lunch at Hamburger King, a Shawnee landmark established in 1927.

The trip concluded with a visit to St. Gregory’s Abbey, a Benedictine monastery, where students toured the grounds and met with two of the nineteen monks who call the abbey home.

“I am grateful to CASC for providing our students with the opportunity to broaden their horizons through cultural experiences,” said Susan Hill, CASC Instructor. “In a single day, we were able to explore Egyptian artifacts and learn about the traditions of monastic life. How exciting!”

Carl Albert State College remains committed to offering students meaningful opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.
