Upward Bound Academic Advisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Carl Albert State College has an opening for an Upward Bound Academic Advisor.  This is a full-time position based at the Poteau campus.  The UB program is a Federally-funded TRiO program designed to assist disadvantaged students to complete high school and enter postsecondary education. Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

● Provide academic, career and counseling services which encourage and motivate students to complete high

school and to enter postsecondary education

● Assist in the planning and implementation of the development of personal, cultural, social, and academic

awareness needed to successfully participate in a postsecondary environment

● Plan and organize monthly meetings, academic curriculum, workshops, and seminars during the academic

year and summer components

● Assist in the implementation of UB (Upward Bound) activities and services

● Monitor academic year and summer component (including Bridge Program) grades and progress

● Identify and address any student need

● Provide academic support by meeting with participants, educators, and parents

● Follow-up and document progress of all UB participants (past and present)

● Publicize the UB Project at the institution, target schools, and in the community

● Assist with recruiting, identifying, interviewing, and selecting UB participants

● Coordinate the academic assessment of participants and monitor the Education Action Plans, progress

reports and participant performance

● Prepare or assist in preparation of program newsletter, calendar, and community publications

● Attend staff meetings as scheduled

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree required; background/experience working w/similar to target population.  Applicant must have skills related to collection, maintenance and analysis of information; ability to interact with low income/first generation college students; ability to interact with the community and college personnel.  Prefer one to three years’ professional experience and bi-lingual.

SALARY:
