CARL ALBERT STATE COLLEGE CELEBRATES NATIONAL ATHLETIC TRAINING MONTH

Every March, the world celebrates National Athletic Training Month. At Carl Albert State College, we have two exceptional women who manage our athletic training room. They ensure our athletes stay healthy to play their sports and attend every home game, and post-season events to ensure safety.

Chelsie Barnes, MS, LAT, ATC, Director of Sports Medicine, Asst. Athletic Director Chelsie Barnes has watched the athletic training room sprout from seed since 2016. Being the Director of Sports Medicine starting in 2019, Chelsie developed a small 2-sport training room into a state of the art facility housing treatment for 6 sports. “As the athletic department grew, the training room grew,” says Chelsie. Chelsie prides herself in the luxury of our facilities that

provides our student athletes with the utmost treatment that prevents and treats injuries. Outside of the training room, Chelsie enjoys spending time with her niece and nephew, and running her sports recovery business, Recharge Sports Recovery.

Savannah Glasco, MS, LAT, ATC, Athletic Trainer: Savannah Glasco has been a member of Carl Albert State College sports medicine for 8 years.  Savannah chose this profession because she wanted to stay involved in sports while working in

the medical field. “I love my job because it allows the students to continue playing the sports they love while being healthy”, says Savannah. Outside of the training room, Savannah enjoys spending time with her new baby boy and her husband. Her favorite hobbies are thrift shopping and planting flowers.

These women know what it takes to truly be a Viking, because they are both Carl Albert State College alumni. With the Athletic Training Room averaging approximately 600 treatments a month, they have Pre-Sports Medicine students who are interested in the athletic training field who have opportunities to shadow and receive hands-on experience.
