Poteau, OK — Carl Albert State College proudly celebrated excellence, legacy, and Viking spirit during last week’s Homecoming festivities, honoring six outstanding individuals and crowning this year’s Homecoming King and Queen.

Highlights of the evening included the Wall of Honor service award recognitions for three extraordinary individuals who have devoted their lives to service, leadership, and the mission of Carl Albert State College.  The college also recognized three outstanding alumni who have each made remarkable contributions in their professions and communities and whose achievements, leadership, and service have brought great honor to our alma mater. Their achievements inspire us all and remind our students of the impact they too can make.

Wall of Honor Inductees

Jean Ann Barlow (posthumous recognition)
Born in Willard, Ohio, Jean Ann Barlow served more than two decades as Executive Assistant to the President and Board of Regents at Carl Albert State College. A trusted voice and guiding presence, she worked diligently to ensure excellence across all levels of the institution. Her career encompassed roles in business, administration, and banking—each carried out with compassion, precision, and dignity.

A lifelong learner, Barlow earned an Associate of Arts in Business Administration from CASC in 1999 and a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from John Brown University in 2001. She was beloved for her belief in education, her mentorship of colleagues, and her joy for life—especially time spent with family, cooking, and cheering on The Ohio State University Buckeyes. Her daughter, Erika, accepted the award on her behalf.

CASC celebrates her legacy of service and excellence that will continue to inspire future generations.

Beginning as a recruiter and instructor before becoming Registrar and Veterans Coordinator for 25 years, she brought steadfast leadership, a calm presence, and an unwavering commitment to student success.

Dickerson holds degrees from both the University of Oklahoma and Northeastern State University. In retirement, she enjoys time with loved ones — including her son John, daughter-in-law Rachel, and grandchildren Karlie, Rylee, and Rowen — as well as traveling and church activities. Her influence on the CASC community remains immeasurable.

Garry M. Ivey
Garry Ivey has been a champion for accessible, high-quality education throughout his 37 years at CASC, including his tenure as President from 2013–2016. Beginning as a Construction Management Instructor, he held numerous leadership roles including Department Chair, CEO of the CASC Development Foundation, and Assistant to the President, while also overseeing key campus projects in both Poteau and Sallisaw.

With multiple degrees including an Associate of Science from CASC (then Poteau Junior College), Ivey demonstrated a lifelong commitment to learning and educational advancement. Now retired, he and his wife Sue enjoy family, faith, community involvement, and the outdoors.
