Military Service Members Encouraged to Enroll at Carl Albert State College – A 2014 Military Friendly School

Pre-enrollment for the 2014 Spring Semester is underway at Carl Albert State College.   Veterans, Active Military service members, and their spouses are encouraged to call or stop by the College to learn more about becoming a student at Carl Albert.

Carl Albert State College was named to the coveted Military Friendly Schools List for 2014 that honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and to help ensure their success on campus.

Dawn Webster, CASC VA Certifying Official stated, “Carl Albert State College has been designated a Military Friendly School several years in a row, and we take pride in this honor. We want to help our service members as they seek to gain the education and skills needed in today’s workforce, and we strive to promote a supportive environment for our military students.”

The CASC Veteran Affairs Office is located on the Poteau campus, however students can attend classes at Poteau, Sallisaw, or online. Webster stated, “We try our best to offer individualized assistance in the entire process of gaining admission, seeking financial aid, and enrolling for classes.”  She went on to explain that additional services include certifying credit hours of veterans, dependents, reservist/guardsmen, and disabled veteran students who qualify for veteran’s educational benefits. Carl Albert State College is certified by the Oklahoma State Accrediting Agency to the Veterans Administration as an approved training institution.

Garry M. Ivey, CASC President, stated he is grateful for the importance the College’s faculty and staff place on assisting military personnel as they work toward certificates and/or degrees at Carl Albert. “There is a reason we continue to receive this prestigious honor, and it is because we appreciate our military services members, and we want to help them as they pursue their college education.”

Spring classes will begin Wednesday, January 15, 2014. For details on how military members can prepare to be a student this spring at Carl Albert, call Webster at 918-647-1407 or email her at dwebster@carlalbert.edu.
