Jerry Caughman Honored with Carl Albert State College Distinguished Alumni Association Award at Homecoming

Jerry Caughman is this year’s recipient of the Carl Albert State College Distinguished Alumni Association Award.  He is the Administrator of Redbird Smith Health Center in Sallisaw – an ambulatory health clinic with 115,000 visits annually. The recipient of this annual award is chosen by a committee at Carl Albert and honored at CASC homecoming ceremonies.

As a graduate of Sallisaw High School, Caughman stated he is pleased to see the growth of the Sallisaw campus.  “The College is such an asset to the community, and we are fortunate to have higher education available in both Poteau and Sallisaw.”

While he was a student at Carl Albert, Caughman was active in the Student Government Association, Students in Free Enterprise, and College Democrats. After graduating from Carl Albert, he attended the University of Oklahoma and earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.  While at OU he worked for the President Pro Temp of the Oklahoma State Senate. He began his career in Health Care Management working in Long-Term Care and attained a master’s in Business Administration from Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

Mr. Caughman now lives in Vian with his wife Lacey and their son Jack. In addition to his focus on family and career, Caughman serves on the Administrative Executive Committee for Cherokee Nation Health Services.  He is active in the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce serving on the legislative committee; the Boy Scouts of America as the Neosho District Chair, and the Carl Albert State College Developmental Foundation Board of Trustees. He and his family are members of the Vian United Methodist Church where he also serves as a Trustee. He stated, “I am truly honored to receive this award. Carl Albert State College gave me a solid foundation of education and opportunities for campus involvement, and I am grateful for my experience.”
