Carl Albert State College in Sallisaw – Domestic Abuse Awareness Day

Carl Albert State College in Sallisaw recently hosted a Domestic Abuse Awareness Day. Dr. Kathy Harrell, CASC Vice President at Sallisaw, explained that Silent Witness was on display by the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.

“There were 53 silhouettes on display honoring the homicide victims of Oklahoma, and that number included two law enforcement officers. Dr. Harrell continued, “This is only a small representation of the victims because the Coalition can only represent the victims for whom the families give permission.”

As part of the Awareness Day activities, a panel discussion took place featuring Amanda Grizzle – Sequoyah County District Attorney’s Victim Witness Coordinator, Shawna Morse and Donna Owens – victim advocates for Help in Crisis, Cindy Smith with the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, and Stacey Slaugher – Lead District Attorney. Over 60 Carl Albert students and community members were in attendance.

Pictured is District Attorney Bryan Kuester as he reads the information on the silhouettes.
